Can't reproduce the problem with the Cancel button either on Windows or on Linux.
Cancel can take some time if there are a large number of subdirectories. See JBIDE-7524.
As to the OK button, I will disable it while searching.

I suppose you have a low limit on open files. You can check this by "ulimit -a".
See the open files variable.
Newer Linux distributions set ulimit to a low value (1024 on Ubuntu). Eclipse opens a lot
of files and you probably reach that value. Try to increase ulimit.

indeed, you were right. increasing the max opened file limit made the exception
disappear.
On the other hand, I unfortunately can still experience the main issue where the dialog
does not fulfill the cancel request as quickly as you would have wished.

I just installed and tested the "Test" Action in a fresh eclipse 3.6. The in the
progress-dialog does not close the dialog immediately. It takes up to 10 secs for the
dialog to disappear. So it looks like your assumption about a bug in the progress dialog
looks accurate to me.
