Denny, that's not exactly what I was looking for. We shouldn't automatically
default it to a particular runtime version unless the version is actually supported by the
runtime associated with the project. So we need a way to check the ESB version of the
runtime associated with the ESB project and provide a smart default as opposed to just
defaulting to the highest one.

From John G: Related issue: the ESB wizard should sort in descending
order the version numbers (last time I checked, the version numbers appeared in some
random order). While not the functionality JBIDE-5484 wants, the fact that most users will
tend to be on the current, or near current, version would help.
So perhaps defaulting to the highest version is a good thing.
I still think that if there's a way to check the runtime associated with the project
and get the ESB version from there, that would be a better way to go.

Do you mean if the project ESB runtime doesn't support the higher version, so the
version should be appear in the Version combo, for example, if the project use ESB 4.6 as
it ESB runtime, the xsd version number 1.2.0 would not be list in the drop down list?

No, I don't want to remove any of the supported versions. I just want to default to
the right one if at all possible.
Let's look at this as a two part approach...
1) If there's an ESB runtime associated with the project the ESB file is being created
in, we should be able to tell what ESB version would be correct for the file. For
instance, if there's a "JBoss ESB Library" in the project's Java Build
Path, we should be able to pick up from it what the version should be and default
accordingly.
2) If there isn't an ESB runtime associated with the project, then let's go ahead
and default to the highest possible version (1.2.0 for now).

This might do the trick. The issue is that the versions that populate the drop-down are
all Strings, so we don't necessarily know the best way to sort them. At least by
trying to sort the Strings, we might end up with a somewhat consistent list - then take
the "largest" one.

Slava is there a good way (beyond simply trying to sort the list as I did and taking the
"highest" one) to check the project where the file is being created for a
classpath variable that might give us insight into the best version for the associated
runtime?
For example, an ESB project should have an associated ESB Runtime library entry in the
project classpath. Each JBoss ESB Runtime entry in preferences (JBoss Tools -> JBoss
ESB Runtimes) has an associated version. We should be able to map the associated ESB
runtime version with a particular schema version I would think.
But for a quick and dirty approach, the patch that sorts the list and then uses the
"highest" version might work...

The patch is good for the case when ESB Runtime is missing and I applied it. Since
CreateFileSupport is base class for creating many kinds of versioned files, this change
will affect them as well, but I think it is ok.
Also, I added to CreateFileSupport interface DefaultVersionResolver, implementation of
which may optionally be provided by action meta-data. I have implemented it for New ESB
file: when project has an associated ESB Runtime, I obtain its version invoking
org.jboss.tools.esb.core.runtime.JBossRuntimeManager. (I added dependency of
org.jboss.tools.esb.core on org.jboss.tools.esb.project.core).

The New ESB File wizard asks what ESB version you want to create a configuration for -
1.0.1, 1.1, and 1.2. It would be nice if this wizard could check the project container to
see what version of the runtime would be best and default to the highest version possible
(for the most functionality).
Denny, I think this one goes to you - but if not, let me know and I'll check with
Slava.
This is a low priority that would be "Nice to have" if all other critical
issues are fixed. Probably not for 3.1.0 GA
