Here the main purpose was to make MINISHIFT_HOME work. So if it works in general and there is a small bug somewhere in there, I agree a new JIRA is in order. But here before I learnt the details, it seemed that the simple use case and main purpose of this JIRA didn't work for Ondrej, so I felt it was right to reopen this JIRA.
