When you add a file from your local Eclipse environment into Guvnor, a file is created
with the same name except for a dot in front. These files contain the Guvnor integration
information. For example here is a .jboss-esb.xml file

If I got it rigth from Kris V then the file is not supposed to be next to the same file,
it's supposed to be in a .guvnor subdirectory.
That means .guvnor should be what gets ignored, but reading Jeff comments it sounds like
the file is actually placed next to the file in the same folder - making it very hard to
integrate into any tooling or toolset.
Kris - which one is it ? :)
btw. as far as I understand Team providers in Eclipse (svn and cvs) works by calling
IResource.setTeamPrivateMember(true) and possibly also IResource.setDerived(true) to make
them be ignored by other parts of the tooling. Needs investigating though.

The files are added in a .guvnorinfo folder.
I tried to create Validation rules (e.g.for the XML Validator) under the Exclude Group.
Similar to
Folder: .settings/ (case sensitive).
But I cannot get to be a Folder. It always lists it as
Qualified File: .guvnorinfo/ (case sensitive)
I was able to exclude the .guvnorinfo in my Java Build Path src folder, so that eliminated
the warnings related to .java files.

I finally was able to create exclusion filter rules on the .guvnorinfo folders. The trick
was to use the Browse Folder button. (you cannot just type in .guvnorinfo). However, when
you try to browse to a .guvnorinfo folder, they don't appear. SO select the higher
level folder (e.e., bpelcontent), then type in /.guvnorinfo/, and you wind up with an
exclusion rule that looks like:
Folder: bpelcontent/.guvnorinfo/ (case sensitive)
You have to do this with every folder that contains a .guvnorinfo folder, but at least the
errors go away.

I am also having an issue with the BPEL archive creator. By default it includes the
bpelContent/.guvnorinfo files, which includes a .processname.bpel file, which upon
deployment causes and exception to be thrown as it is not a valid bpel file. Properties
-> Module Assembly also provides the ability to configure "references" that
allow excluding files, but I cannot seem to get it to exclude all the files in the
.guvnorinfo folder (without excluding everything).

Fitz, I am not sure I agree with you that the second issue is not a Drools / Guvnor issue.
Both the errors expressed by the validators and the BPEL archive issue are caused by the
creation of a .guvnorinfo folder with files having the same extension as the original
file, and a fix for one might fix the other and they both need to be fixed in order to use
the Eclipse Guvnor Tooling for loading arbitrary files from arbitrary projects into
Guvnor. On the other hand it might be that the second issue can be resolved by the BPEL
module assembly without any change to the .guvnorinfo naming so from that standpoint maybe
splitting them up might be better; but still link them together.

Yes, linking the issues was what I had in mind. I've asked Bob Brodt to look into the
BPEL Archiver to see what's going on from that side, but obviously we need to get this

In further testing on latest Nightly Build
(jbosstools-3.2.0.Beta1.aggregate-Update-2010-10-05_04-35-15-H197) it appears the problems
are related to the project type, not the file type. For Java projects there does not seem
to be a problem with .xsd, .xml, .wsdl, etc. However ESB Projects and BPEL Project appear
to have issues with all these file types.

Guys, i think you are mixing issues together here.
If guvnor tooling *still* aren't marking .guvnorinfo or any other pure guvnor metadata
IResource's as derived *and* Team metadata then the the guvnor metadata to be fully
exposed to eclipse…it explains the validation errors and why .guvnorinfo shows up in the
assembly since it is simply not ignored. *exact* same things will/does happen with .svn /
CVS folders if you dont have the svn or cvs plugin installed which does the job of marking
resources as team resources.
