Andre Dietisheim commented on JBIDE-11421:
------------------------------------------
When installing the official binaries
(
http://eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-cc-developers-includes...), I ended up
having EGit 1.3. Checking for updates did not give me EGit 2.0:
1) I downloaded the latest Eclipse-CPP-SR2 from
eclipse.org which is *Build id:
20120216-1857*
It ships with EGit 1.3
2) Ran "Check for updates" and did not get any, Eclipse was reproting "No
updates were found"
I also checked the Eclipse CPP version with incubation plugins you are pointing to.
Strange enough I have a different build id: Build id: 20120216-1857 (identical to the
official binary). It ships with EGit 1.3. Running updates there also reports none.
Even when installing Eclipse SDK 3.7.2 20120208-0800 I did not end up having EGit 2.0.
So I wonder how the user managed to get EGit 2.0? Using an upstream EPP package? Adding
some nightly update site (
http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-nightly)?
The official EGit release is still 1.3:
http://www.eclipse.org/egit/download/ ->
Installing the Latest Release: 1.3.0.201202151440-r
We use a version constrain for EGit that excludes 2.0 since with any new major you have to
expect a compatibility break. We therefore excluded 2.0 since we cannot assure you that
our tooling would still work. We even had major unexpected problems when mixing runtime
and compilation versions with EGit (compiling with 1.3, running with 1.2).
I'd strongly encourage you to use the official, stable binaries and not to use nightly
updates.
See if OpenShift tooling works with egit 2.0.0

Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
Issue Type: Task
Components: openshift
Affects Versions: 3.3.0.Beta1
Reporter: Xavier Coulon
Assignee: Andre Dietisheim
Priority: Critical
Fix For: 3.3.0.Beta3
Attachments: eclipse-cpp-sr2-egit.png, eclipse-cpp-sr2.png
See

It seems like Eclipse IDE for C++ developers ships with egit 2.0, which is currently
incompatible with our tooling, which requires egit [1.2.0, 2.0.0)
