I just installed RHDS RC1, right click New -> Seam Web Project input the name, keep
all defaults (ear or war, doesn't matter) finish let it deploy and I get a simple 404
when my project loads, because it really isn't deployed by JBoss.
So, it looks like creating a simple Seam project, both Seam 1.2 AP and Seam2 either ear or
war is foobar with RC1?
The war dir structure created in my project looks like:
SeamSecurityProj.war/
|-- META-INF
|-- WEB-INF
| |-- classes
| | `-- org
| | `-- domain
| | `-- SeamSecurityProj
| | `-- session
| `-- lib
|-- img
|-- layout
`-- stylesheet
Which obviously is a problem, it should have a lot more files than this, am I missing some

Clean and publish doesn't appear to fix it.
Here are the steps I followed that led me to where I am at:
1) Install RHDS RC1 with specific JRE: /data/apps/java/jdk1.5.0_13/jre
2) Create new Seam Web Project called SeamSecurityProj All defaults on first screen,
Check Java Persistence on next screen, defaults on next screen, defaults on next screen,
defaults on next screen, Deploy as war on next screen defaults otherwise. Click Finish
3) Server will be stopped at this point but the SeamSecurityProj and SeamSecurityProj/res
will show up under the server. Right Click publish. Start the server.
4) The war fails to publish, the relevant section of the log looks like:

I just installed RHDS RC1, right click New -> Seam Web Project input the name, keep
all defaults (ear or war, doesn't matter) finish let it deploy and I get a simple 404

fresh one from the install archive.
It appears that the Temporary Deploy Directory is created at the time when the eclipse
server instance is created for JBoss, and as soon as I recreated the directory in
C:\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\tmp\jbosstoolsTemp the problem went away."
I'm still wondering if you tried using a *clean* install or used an existing workspace
or what ? The user in forum seem to have used an old workspace (which we should support

A clean install of JBAS was the root cause in this instance. A clean RHDS install with an
existing workspace didn't exhibit the problem, but I'd say it's more likely
that's because I created a new JBAS Server config within RHDS, and thus the temp
directory was created when that happened.
BTW, the Eclipse/RHDS workspace that I had upgraded from showed an error something like
"application is not a valid feature" on RHDS startup. I wish I'd filed a
ticket when the details were right in front of me, but as it is now my memory is sketchy
about the details of which version of what created that workspace. Sadly in the Eclipse
plugin world, cruft is a fact of life, and so I've gotten a little trigger-happy with
creating new workspaces. It takes a very special application to require re-install perhaps
20+ times more often than MS Windows does to keep it running smoothly :-)

Ok, I added the jbosstoolsTemp to the tmp dir of the eap embedded in RHDS and that did not
change anything for me. So to be clear, I am using a fresh RHDS, using a fresh workspace,
and using the EAP that comes embedded in RHDS.
For some reason there was nothing in the event log this time (maybe because I created that
folder? seems an unlikely coincidence), but I generated a report and attached it. The
/data/apps/eclipse/rhdevstudio/jboss-eap/jboss-as/server/default/tmp/jbosstoolsTemp is
empty after I deploy also.

I just installed RHDS RC1, right click New -> Seam Web Project input the name, keep
all defaults (ear or war, doesn't matter) finish let it deploy and I get a simple 404

With the jbosstoolsTemp folder created, the publish would go through without error. This
is consistant with no message in the event log (a successful deploy doesn't preach its
successes, only whine about errors. This could perhaps be improved in the future to show a
clean success).
The ultimate question is: Did the application deploy 100% correctly?

sorry - problem view is not what meant, Error Log view (btw. you need to either clean the
project to get it build and it seems like you are using java 6 correct? otherwise that
phase-listener issue shouldn't be there ;) ...and also seem like you have enabled Dali
JPA which causes the persistence.xml issue.

And you say you start the server with the app deployed - did you also try and publish to
it ? and that makes no difference ?

I just installed RHDS RC1, right click New -> Seam Web Project input the name, keep
all defaults (ear or war, doesn't matter) finish let it deploy and I get a simple 404
when my project loads, because it really isn't deployed by JBoss.
So, it looks like creating a simple Seam project, both Seam 1.2 AP and Seam2 either ear
or war is foobar with RC1?
The war dir structure created in my project looks like:
SeamSecurityProj.war/
|-- META-INF
|-- WEB-INF
| |-- classes
| | `-- org
| | `-- domain
| | `-- SeamSecurityProj
| | `-- session
| `-- lib

Which obviously is a problem, it should have a lot more files than this, am I missing

I've discovered the error is in renaming the file.
Your server is *not* using ${appServerInstallation}/tmp/jbosstoolsTmp as the temporary
folder.
It is using the folder listed in the image, which is the eclipse default temporary
folder.
The failure to rename (on some file systems) means that your eclipse installation is on a
different file system than your jboss app server.
Try this:
In a fresh workspace, create a new server. Don't change anything. Just use the
defaults. Then immediately once completed double-click the server (to open the server
editor) and check its deploy location and its temporary deploy location for me. Also be
sure to mention if both entries actually exist on the file system.

Interesting...The JBoss EAP which was configured when I installed the RHDS had an empty
deploy directory and a temporary directory of
/home/sjmenden/workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.wst.server.core which is on a
different partition than my rhds install.
So I deleted the server and readded it, and now it looks like:
deploy dir: /data/apps/eclipse/rhdevstudio/jboss-eap/jboss-as/server/default/deploy
temp dir:
/data/apps/eclipse/rhdevstudio/jboss-eap/jboss-as/server/default/tmp/jbosstoolsTemp
Which is what we would expect. And now it works. But this means there is a bug somewhere
in the initial installation of the EAP that comes bundled with the RHDS that is installed
when the RHDS is installed, correct?

I generated the same Invalid content no root node error with an install of Jboss S to non
C directory in windows. I will do the fix suggested clean install of Jboss As on C: and
report back on Tuesday if it works.
