This might not be a problem since 8.x should be api backwards compatible anyways but it is just something both core and IS team need to be aware about. Thats why at f2f it was discussed as being done for 7.0 first (we need to cleanup the updatesite first so there is just one updatesite like for devstudio 8) and then do it for devstudio 8 when going GA. btw.
