----------------------------------------------------------------
I may have found the solution.
I installed the "original" Sun Java 6 JDK using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb
http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jdk
sudo update-alternatives --config java
and I got Eclipse to use the newly installed JDK.
The issue seems solved now.
