Max Rydahl Andersen commented on JBIDE-16592:
---------------------------------------------
Trying to outline why I think more explict UI elements is better here:
Lets say there a 10 elements in the list of things that can be installed/update.
I want to Update all:
In your option: Find the right of 3 options in 10 combos (~10 clicks + scrolling in
combo)
in mine: Click Update All (1 click)
I want to remove 3 of them:
In your option: Find the right of 3 options in 3 combos + Apply (~4 clicks + scrolling in
combo)
In mine: Click 3 element checkbox + Remove
I want to update 3 of them:
In your option: Find the right of 3 options in 3 combos + Apply (~4 clicks + scrolling in
combo)
In mine: Click 3 element checkbox + Update
I want to install 3 early access components:
in your option: Find the right of 3 options in 3 combos + Apply (~4 clicks + scrolling in
combo)
in mine: User need to explicitly choose to see it then click 3 elemens checkbox +
update/install
Yes your approach is more "uniform"/generic but that is not necessary a good
thing since it
A) adds overhead in most cases compared to most common usecases
B) makes early access something everyone can install more by accident than intentional.
Allow to update/remove software installed from Central
