Eh... depends on what you mean by "picture".
At the moment we can scroll the whole canvas as a single "entity". The mapping
source and target are all on the one canvas. If we want to map something at that's
positioned at the bottom of the source model to something that's positioned at the top
of the target model (which are both on the same single canvas remember) and the source and
target models are too big to fit in the viewing area of the single canvas. Result...
impossible to perform the mapping without moving everything around on the canvas to get
the source and target nodes into the viewing area.
If the source and target models were on separate canvases, which were individually
scrollable, then you can move each model (source and target) independently until the
desired source and target nodes are both in view, allowing you to perform the mapping.

Tom, just FYI, the scrolling that Dart has done is similar to what I was recommending when
you and I were talking about this a while back.
Dart, I think Tom is thinking about having three a three column approach, each column
being scrollable - first column would be the "Source", second column would be
where the mappings would appear, and the third column would be the "Target".
Within each column, the model entity should be able to be moved/resized.

I think what's causing all the confusion here is the screwed up approach we have in
the current editor... with the 2 models (source and target) on the same panel.
Subconsciously we must be thinking about it as one model or something? I don't know.
Anyway... we have 2 models... we always had 2 models on each screen ... source and
target:
- Java Binding: XML/EDI/etc (source) -> Java (target)
- Temaplting: Java (source) to XML/EDI/etc (target)

Ok. Just to clarify - Source Model 1 & Source Model 2 in my picture (3-column)
probably wasn't the best choice of words. If you put in something like a Java class
model in the source or target (far left or far right) side like we have today, really
that's what we're talking about.
Like I said before - The left (source) and right (target) columns are scrollable, but
would possibly have more than one model in them. Consider there to be three separate
canvas objects - left and right are scrollable and the middle one doesn't move - it
just repaints the arrows based on the position of the left and right.
Does that help at all?

Right... 3 "columns"... left and right are scrollable... middle one is not
scrollable and just repaints the arrows/connections as left and right scroll.
To reiterate... there is only 1 model in each of the left and right... exactly as we have

in between the left and right as a separator.
Again... exactly as it is today, except split in two with a separator in between.
So.... taking the current flows we have today....
1. Java Binding: We want the input message model in the left column (scrollable) and we
want the target Java Object model in the right column (scrollable).
2. Apply Template: We want the source Java Object model in the left column (scrollable)
and the target output message model in the right column (scrollable).

Weird in what way Dart? As I said... what I'm suggesting is exactly the same as it
was before except that we are separating the source and target onto two separate
scrollable panels. Do you think a diff screen looks weird (as with the above screencast)?
Visually we're talking about the same thing... left and right scrollable panels with
connections between the two.
IMO... what we have now looks totally weird, with the source and target models mixed in
together i.e. no clear separation between the two.
