An Alias is a valid hostname - a valid DNS record might be an Alias. The specification reads: The DNS defines domain name syntax very generally -- a string of labels each containing up to 63 8-bit octets, separated by dots, and with a maximum total of 255 octets. (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1123.txt) Furthermore, the Alias size is truncated to 100 characters without letting the user know.
