[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-2775) HIVE2: cannot run ORDER BY SQL without LIMIT
by Steven Hawkins (JIRA)
Steven Hawkins commented on TEIID-2775:
---------------------------------------
Seems like it's viable to workaround using built-in functionality:
http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera-content/cloudera-docs/Impala/lat...
You can set an impala wide default, or set the connection pool to use a new connection sql setting to issue a SET statement to set a default value (and control the exception on limit behavior).
Can this be resolved as either a pool or impala configuration issue?

> Cannot run SQL with order by, but without limit clause.
> If I run a sql like the following with HIVE2/ IMPALA:
> select "account_type"
> from "hive2DS"."accounts"
> group by "account_type"
> order by "account_type"
> Teiid would convert it to:
> SELECT g_0.account_type AS c_0 FROM accounts g_0 GROUP BY g_0.account_type ORDER BY c_0
> And I will get the following exception:

> When the ws translator returns a streamed result internal operations, such as adding to a tuple buffer may attempt to obtain the length, etc. that render the lob unusable and result in opaque errors, such as
> "TEIID30035 Wrong type of data found or no data found; expecting streamable object from the buffer manager"
> We should make streaming best effort (such as resorting to the copy on read logic), more fool-proof with internal operations, or at least improve the error message.

> In some cases drivers use thread local or other logic not conducive to Teiid's execution model where the processing/connector thread may be different for each source operation. It would be useful to ensure completion of the source access in a single thread - which could be either to hold thread with the execution or to proactively process the results so that the thread can be released.
