[teiid-issues] [JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDSB-227) Information about support for Hibernate-Spatial
by Fabian Knoll (Jira)
[ https://issues.redhat.com/browse/TEIIDSB-227?page=com.atlassian.jira.plug... ]
Fabian Knoll commented on TEIIDSB-227:
--------------------------------------
I tried all functions with "ST_GeomFrom*". Always in resulting an error like:
{code:java}
Caused by: org.teiid.deployers.VirtualDatabaseException: TEIID40095 TEIID31080 teiid.street validation error: TEIID30070 The function 'ST_GeomFromEWKT(geom)' is a valid function form, but the arguments do not match a known type signature and cannot be converted using implicit type conversions.
{code}
Thus I think the blob/varbinary of the Teiid translator has a different format....

We want to use the so called [VDB-less Development|https://github.com/teiid/teiid-spring-boot/blob/master/docs/U...]. Therefore the hibernate spatial mapping for geometry-Types is needed. We tried different (datasource) configurations, but we couldn't get a running example.
> Is the hibernate-spatial type mapping supported in Teiid-Spring-Boot and if so, can you provide us an example?
> Hint: In our entities we use org.locationtech.jts.geom.Geometry (and subtypes) for the mapped fields.

Ramesh Reddy commented on TEIIDSB-227:
--------------------------------------
The Teiid translator for the Postgres reads the Geometry type as blob/varbinary, now you can just wrap as I showed in the example with `ST_` function that should work.

{code}
So why is varbinary expected? The hibernate entity defines a subtype of org.locationtech.jts.geom.Geometry? Do i miss something?

Alpha Sort your columns like below in your Street Entity.
{code:java}
@Id
int gid;
@Column
MultiLineString geom;
@Column
String name;{code}
Also the query
{code:java}
SELECT gid, geom, name FROM nyc.nyc_streets{code}
Then you will see the correct error for the geom. As the code tries to matchup based alpha sorting to select clause.

In the above `geom` type needs to be blob with a certain geometry format. You can use any of these functions [1] if your source type is any other type, then use the corresponding `ST_xxx` function o convert to Geometry type in the Entity
