[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-5643) When querying a larger dataset, teiid answers with 504 Gateway Time-out and throws exception
by Steven Hawkins (Jira)
Steven Hawkins commented on TEIID-5643:

> But no dump file is written. What do you think? Is my configuration correct and I do not get a heap dump as there is no out of memory error?
Very strange. What you have looks correct. If you don't see a memory related error captured in the log, then yes it probably wasn't triggered by that run.
> What could I try next?
To confirm this just a straight read of a source access - everything is pushed down? If the driver is no longer fully materializing the result set it isn't really clear what would be causing this. Teiid will cache the result set as part of the odata paging - but that should use disk as needed and shouldn't cause a problem.
You could reduce the max memory to force out of memory error.

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-5643) When querying a larger dataset, teiid answers with 504 Gateway Time-out and throws exception
by Christoph John (Jira)
Christoph John commented on TEIID-5643:
---------------------------------------
Hello Steven,
sorry for the late reply. I tried to get the heap dump with the HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError flag set. Unfortunately without success so far. I assume teiid simply does not run out of memory.
As mentioned before, I am using teiid-widlfy from docker container. I have added the following config parameters to
/opt/jboss/wildfly/bin/standalone.conf
JAVA_OPTS="-Xms64m -Xmx512m -XX:MetaspaceSize=96M -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=256m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/opt/jboss/wildfly/oom.hprof"
When I start the server, the log gives me
JBoss Bootstrap Environment
JBOSS_HOME: /opt/jboss/wildfly
JAVA: /usr/lib/jvm/java/bin/java
JAVA_OPTS: -server -Xms64m -Xmx512m -XX:MetaspaceSize=96M -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=256m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/opt/jboss/wildfly/oom.hprof -Djboss.modules.system.pkgs=org.jboss.byteman -Djava.awt.headless=true
=========================================================================
20:47:04,433 INFO [org.jboss.modules] (main) JBoss Modules version 1.6.1.Final ...
The path is writable for user JBoss /opt/jboss/wildfly/
However, when querying the select * I still get the error
504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn't respond in time.
But no dump file is written. What do you think? Is my configuration correct and I do not get a heap dump as there is no out of memory error? What could I try next?
Thanks for your help!
Best regards,
Christoph

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-5532) Common table projection minimization does not account for usage in a subquery nested in an aggregate or in some view scenarios
by Steven Hawkins (Jira)
Steven Hawkins resolved TEIID-5532.
-----------------------------------
Resolution: Done
> Common table projection minimization does not account for usage in a subquery nested in an aggregate or in some view scenarios
> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: TEIID-5532
> URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TEIID-5532
> Project: Teiid
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Query Engine
> Reporter: Steven Hawkins
> Assignee: Steven Hawkins
> Priority: Blocker
> Fix For: 8.12.17.6_4, 11.2.1, 12.0, 11.1.2, 11.0.3
>
>
> Nesting the usage of a common table in an aggregate means that the columns can be removed inappropriately by projection minimization. A query such as:
> with CTE1 as /*+ no_inline */ (SELECT e1, e2, e3 from pm1.g1)
> select array_agg((select e3 from cte1 where e1=pm1.g2.e1 and e2=pm1.g2.e2)) from pm1.g2
> will return null values for all e3 as projection minimization of CTE1 will replace the column with a null value.
> A similar situation occurs when the query above is defined instead in a view. A similar issue was captured on TEIID-5535

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIIDSB-23) Document image generation options
by Steven Hawkins (Jira)
Steven Hawkins commented on TEIIDSB-23:
---------------------------------------
Here's what it looks like to expose the metrics https://github.com/shawkins/teiid-openshift-examples/commit/d8cab5d988afa... I'll refine the beans, then update the config. It would be nice if this were all annotation driven.
I'll update prometheus scraping next.

> Priority: Major
> Fix For: Q119
>
>
> We need to document / validate all relevant image options:
> - inclusion of agent bond or other mechanism for jmx exposure to prometheus. There may also be related service annotations
> - annotations for 3scale for rest and openapi exposure of odata
> - any common config options - disk buffer memory, max active plans / engine threads / connection pool sizes. Ideally the buffer manager heap should auto-configure and we should probably always use off-heap for the fixed memory buffer.

Steven Hawkins commented on TEIIDSB-23:
---------------------------------------
I may revert or change some of the logic from TEIID-5620 - using mxbeans it appears to be straight-forward to traverse them.

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-5598) Updated teiid.io to emphasize the runtime
by Steven Hawkins (Jira)
Steven Hawkins commented on TEIID-5598:
---------------------------------------
The initial rework with existing content is complete.
We still need to:
- highlight the tooling relationship to syndesis
- reorg the quickstart in general, an in particular introduce the the runtime via openshift quickstarts

> Related to TEIID-5597, we should update teiid.io to better emphasize the runtime and the burgeoning tool chain / limited (wildfly free) docs.
> Ideally starting from the landing page we should:
> - make it clear our relationship to syndesis
> - highlight the cloud tooling option
> - introduce the the runtime via openshift quickstarts
> - some other link for everyone else (wildfly / developers)

Steven Hawkins commented on TEIIDSB-23:
---------------------------------------
Actually this is the expected default situation for now... It's documented here: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_fuse/7.2/html/manag... as to overriding the metrics to export. I'll provide a pr with that change.
