The value returned by ManagedProperty.getValue is the actual one, not the new value that was submitted. Basically should use: MetaValueFactory.getInstance().unwrap(value); Instead of: MetaValueFactory.getInstance().unwrap(property.getValue()); In all properties manipulated by the setValue method.
