> from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Elastic_MapReduce#Amazon_Elastic_MapR...
> Elastic MapReduce (EMR)was introduced by Amazon in April 2009. Provisioning of the Hadoop cluster, running and terminating jobs, and handling data transfer between EC2 and S3 are automated by Elastic MapReduce. Apache Hive, which is built on top of Hadoop for providing data warehouse services, is also offered in Elastic MapReduce.
> ...
> In June 2012, premium options for EMR were added that replace ordinary Hadoop with MapR's M3 and M5 versions. These options provide additional capabilities over and above what the default EMR offering provides.

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-3489) Can a function be added to filter certain ASCII chars below 31 and above 127 out of an XML Document

> Add a function in Teiid to filter off all ASCII chars below 31 and above 127.
> web service data source that contains control characters due to data entered by copy and paste the text from another system.
> The characters in this instance were the print control chars ASCII 28 and 29, File Separator and Group Separator respectively. These are used for formatting in older systems. Unfortunately, the XML standard prohibits the processing of all ASCII characters below 31 apart from Tab, Line Feed and Carriage Return which are permissible. Also, ASCII chars above 127 to 255 will also cause XML parsers to crash.

> - Currently there separate SYSADMIN procedures for internal and external materialization to refresh them, we need to provide single set
> - The management of the (usage of status table) is not fully utilized by the internal materialization this needs to addressed such that both external and internal use this table to keep track of load status

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-3454) Dependent Join optimizations for Netezza and Hive

> Currently, dependent joins create 1 or more IN clauses. Many MPP / NoSQL systems can have drastically better performance by creating temp tables that match key distributions. Two examples I know of would be Netezza and Hive.
> In Netezza, if the incoming dependent join (small dimension; here "Customer" using Northwind data model concepts) has a key that will be joined to to a big fact table that is DISTRIBUTED ON or ORGANIZED BY 'ed then creating a temp table that matches this distribution will result in ~100x query performance. Sometimes, if the dimension is small enough, this doesn't make a big difference as Netezza will perform a broadcast join, but it's never a bad idea to create the temp table.
> Similarly, Hive DDL has both partitions and buckets (pre-sorted).

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-3541) Remove the Teiid embedded kit

> There is no reason to keep a separate embedded kit supplied by Teiid. The scripts that are building the kit needs to be removed from build.
> All the required jar files for the "embedded" examples will be available from the "teiid-embedded-examples". Here we need to focus on documentation, but that is separate effort

[JBoss JIRA] (TEIID-3425) Pass-through kerberos authentication on IBM JDK - principal is not passed to MSSQL driver
by Steven Hawkins (JIRA)

Steven Hawkins resolved TEIID-3425.

> I have configured a datasource for MSSQL database. The datasource uses PassthroughIdentityLoginModule. I have also created a VDB which requires kerberos authentication. I am trying to pass credentials used for authentication CLIENT <=> TEIID to datasource so they can be used for authentication TEIID <=> MSSQL.
> Method getConnection(..) (record in server log) is called with correct credentials, but SQLServerDriver throws an exception:
> initAuthInit failed privileged exception:-java.security.PrivilegedActionException: org.ietf.jgss.GSSException, major code: 13, minor code: 0
> major string: Invalid credentials
> minor string: Cannot get credential from JAAS Subject for principal: default principal
> Some ideas, but I am only guessing:
> 1. I have seen same exception (on client side) if system property "javax.security.auth.useSubjectCredsOnly" is set to false on client side. As this property is set to true in the server config (<property name="javax.security.auth.useSubjectCredsOnly" value="true"/>), it is probably not passed to the driver (or is being ignored).
> 2. SQLServerDriver sets two system properties by default (if no kerberos configuration file is specified) useDefaultCcache = true moduleBanner = false - see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg558122%28v=sql.110%29.aspx - ibm kerberos login module will try to get TGT from ticket cache
> I have tried static kerberos configuration for same DS and there was no problem with it.
