The group by clause cannot use derived columns from the select clause. In your example
the GROUP BY columns A, B would have to be columns on xyz.

If a translator supports LIMIT but does not support select expressions, SELECT
'A' as A, 'B' as B FROM xyz GROUP BY A, B should be written as SELECT *
FROM xyz LIMIT 1
