There has been no movement on their community issue. If this issue still persists with
later versions of Hive it looks like the only workaround that we could pursue is to always
issue select * for simple queries and then filter the columns on our side.

When using the JDBC jars for Hive 0.13.1 running on HDP 2.1, queries executed against
table 'default.sample_07' takes approximately 20-30 seconds to return.
