Actually a source distribution doesn't even need to include binaries. According to
Apache a source only release is even the only kind of official release. Binaries are just
conveniences ;-)
The source release can also contain javadoc, that's probably useful.
The binary release should be as small as possible for faster downloads: no sources, no
javadoc etc. Just binaries and maybe some end-user documentation.
