[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-15335) Consider removing update site zips from jboss.org/tools
by John Muller (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-15335?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugi... ]
John Muller commented on JBIDE-15335:
-------------------------------------
Here's one vote against: at work we use Genuitec Secure Delivery Center to synchronize all Eclipse workspace properties, plugins, etc. With a corporate proxy server and explicit bans against allowing developers to pick and choose any old update site, the zip file is the only way we can add Eclipse plugins. Besides, what does it cost to keep the P2 repo's zip file? 400MBs of disk space?

> Based on anecdotal evidence, it would appear that JBT 4.x is downloaded MANY MORE TIMES from Eclipse Marketplace than from jboss.org/tools:
> As of 2013-08-12 12:48pm:
> * Download stats from http://jboss.org/tools/download/stable/4_1 : 378 + 140 = *518 installs* (could be more if the zip's passed around w/in an org?)
> * Install stats for JBT 4.1.0 from Eclipse Marketplace for 2013/08: *3,678 installs* ({color:red}*7.1x*{color} as many)
> * Download stats from http://jboss.org/tools/download/stable/4_0 : 2441 + 899 = *3,340 installs* (could be more if the zip's passed around w/in an org?)
> * Install stats for JBT 4.0.1 from Eclipse Marketplace for 2013/04 - 2013/08: 11280 + 10421 + 9552 + 6246 + 1635 = *39,134 installs* ({color:red}*11.7x*{color} as many)
> So, is it time to stop providing a zip of the JBT update site? Seems like very few users want JBT delivered via zip.
> Note too that the stats collected above include a partial month (August 2013) during which many people are on vacation. To get a real sense of the download rates we ought to check these numbers again in September and October.

[JBoss JIRA] (JBTIS-158) create composite site zip containing JBDS IS + dependencies for easier offline install
by Nick Boldt (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBTIS-158?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.... ]
Nick Boldt commented on JBTIS-158:
----------------------------------
[~ldimaggio], [~pleacu], [~maxandersen], [~rcernich]:
We are now creating these JBDS IS staging sites, which overwrite automatically w/ every respin:
* Composite site: http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/builds/staging/JBDSIS-aggregate-dis... (includes TP)
* Composite zip: http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/builds/staging/JBDSIS-aggregate-dis... (includes TP)
Once promoted to QE [1] for testing, the above content can be made to appear here:
http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/updates/integration/kepler/integrat...
http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/updates/integration/kepler/integrat...
In theory, the promote should only happen ONCE per handoff to QE. Should you want to republish [1] non-destructively (ie., for a respin-a or respin-b), be sure to use TARGET_FOLDER=7.0.0.Beta1a or TARGET_FOLDER=7.0.0.Beta1b when running the job.

> Suggested by [~rcernich]:
> {quote}For the JBDS-IS site, I was recommending creating a project that would zip the JBDS-IS and JBDS-IS TP sites into a composite site. The zip contents would look something like:
> {code}./compositeContent.xml
> ./compositeArtifacts.xml
> ./7.1.0/7.1.0.Beta1-jbds-is/
> ./7.1.0/7.1.0.Beta1-jbds-is-target-platform/{code}
> {quote}
> This will work if we assume users have already installed JBDS. If we cannot make that assumption, then the composite zip must also include the JBDS update site + JBDS TP site.
> If we did a similar thing for JBT IS, it would need to contain these sites:
> {code}
> JBT webtools aggregate site (not the full JBT aggregate site)
> JBT TP
> JBT IS
> JBT IS TP
> {code}
> Or, if we assume that users will already have JBT (or some part of it) installed, then we need only:
> {code}
> JBT IS
> JBT IS TP
> {code}

[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-15294) BrowserSim: blinking cursor and delays while running BrowserSim with many JREs defined
by Yahor Radtsevich (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-15294?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugi... ]
Yahor Radtsevich updated JBIDE-15294:
-------------------------------------
Fix Version/s: 4.1.1.Alpha1
> BrowserSim: blinking cursor and delays while running BrowserSim with many JREs defined
> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: JBIDE-15294
> URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-15294
> Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
> Issue Type: Enhancement
> Components: browsersim
> Reporter: Yahor Radtsevich
> Assignee: Yahor Radtsevich
> Fix For: 4.1.1.Alpha1, 4.2.0.Alpha1
>
>
> Steps to reproduce:
> # Go to Preferences > Java > Installed JREs and add as many JREs as possible (you may use 'duplicate' button)
> # Run BrowserSim
> Actual result:
> Before BrowserSim is started the mouse cursor is changing between waiting and normal state several times. This happens because BrowserSim checks all available JREs for compatibility every time. This should be optimized by caching or at least taking the first compatible JRE without checking the rest.
