When you use the the installer with eap, the server is added via Runtime Detection, which uses the directory name for the server name and runtime name. So you get the same result any time you use Runtime Detection (Window -> Preferences -> JBoss Tools -> JBoss Runtime Detection) 2. When you add a server manually via New -> Server, you get the long default names based on the Server Type.
