Thank you Andre, I was now able to check both options (config file and property) and it
works as you've described (also the precedence works fine). The only thing is, that
the info about wrong credentials is not very helpful - would it be possible to check if
the URL is correct and if not display a message to user?

There's currently no easy way for a (power-) user to switch to the staging
environment since the PaaS URL is inidicated in the code.
