What other ways can these pollers POSSIBLY respond? Are you suggesting a web port poller should be given different behaviours, like 'return it's up regardless of whether it is or is not' vs 'actually poll and do your job' ? That would make no sense. IT would make no sense for a web poller to do anything other than poll the web port, and, if it responds, reply that it's up. Same for JMX / as7 management.
