Did you really symlinked or used HTTP soft redirect? I believe symlink don't work in
that case, because the resolution of files happen on filesystem and not against the Akamai
mirror, so symlink are probably not leveraging akamai.
About the permissions, owner of targetplatforms/ seems to be "root". We should
open a bug to eng-ops asking to fix that.

All our repositories that are either mirrors or target-platform are not updated often.
Then we could use Akamai to improve performances. At least these folders would be good:

* http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/stable/
