I cannot reproduce the problem with JBoss Tools XML editor.
It can be reproduced with WTP's Faces Config Editor, which takes upper line in
'Open With...' menu.
Vlado, is it possible, that you opened file with Faces Config Editor?
faces-config.xml is not renamed
