some more info:
* the machine is in the lab. We use it as a jenkins slave. If I work on that slave I
don't see any performance problems on the machine. It is quite fast
* firewall is off
* it is a fresh jbds installation - therefore I assume no extra proxy settings in eclipse,
just the default ones
* i can browse easily to download.jboss.org in web browser
I can try it with JBT and report back

It takes way too long to load central content on win7. I get features loaded on
Software/Update tab in about 2 minutes.
