this one is tricky since Teiid is more like a "part" of the existing server -
much like Drools BRMS, jbpm and bpel are.
I don't have a good answer but just knows that they all have the same
"problems", i.e. versioning, how to deploy (remote calls, filecopy ?), etc.

As Max indicated, Teiid isn't a server (although many people throw around the term
"Teiid server" still), it's just an application running on the server.
We've been trying to train ourselves to call each instance *a* Teiid or a Teiid
instance. With that in mind, we have our own Teiid view within Designer that allows users
to deploy VDBs to a Teiid instance.

Yeah, I figured I was just missing the boat here. So Teiid gets installed similar to how
Riftsaw gets installed - just as an add-on to an existing server. Gotcha.

Per previous comments.
Teiid is an app running on a server. Users are able to create models/VDBs (artifacts) in
Designer WITHOUT a Teiid instance defined. They just can't "Test" them.
Users can also "Export" to file system if they want "Deploy" a VDB to
a specific Teiid Instance location WITHOUT that server actually running. If the server IS
running, then the VDB would be successfully/dynamically deployed by this export action IF
the expected Data Source (i.e. xxx-ds.xml) files and translators defined in the VDB exist
in this Teiid instance.
