Now that HtmlUnit 2.2 has gone final it is possible for us to do another
release. The plan has been for a GA release of JSFUnit in late August
or early September to coincide with the JSFOne conference.
We have three outstanding issues that won't be fixed until HtmlUnit 2.3.
So even if we fixed most of the outstanding JSFUnit jiras, I wouldn't
feel comfortable saying that we can do a GA release any time soon.
However, I'm now thinking that maybe we should do a third beta release
as soon as possible. This will get more people using the new
HtmlUnit-based stuff.
I hate for it to look like we're in endless beta though.
Any thoughts?

I think it's always good to show that progress is being made.
If the timing of a release is pegged to the htmlunit release cycle, then the
amount of time in beta is already determined. If that relationship is made
explicit and the reasons for it are explained, I don't think a lot of people
would complain.
Worse than endless beta is the sense that not enough attention is being paid
to a project. I think that sense grows with the length of time between
releases of any kind, especially for young projects. Release early, release
often, and whatnot.

I think it's better to release soon, release often. But I understand how
much of your time goes into each of these.
Have we pinged the HtmlUnit team to get an idea as to when they will
release?

There are places (richfaces support) where the support for each library
isn't clearly separated. I'd like to clean this up a bit before release.

I assume you are talking about the fact that some parts of the
RichFacesClient use HttpUnit and some parts use HtmlUnit? I think
that's a very good point. We should treat that cleanup as a milestone
before any release.

Yes. That was what I was mainly referring to - but I didn't know if there
were other effected places. Ideally I'd like to drop the HttpUnit support as

Yea, that's something else we've got to consider. At first I had in
mind to keep both for a short time to make it easier to transition.
Thus, you have the org.jboss.jsfunit.facade package for the old stuff
and org.jboss.jsfunit.jsfsession for the new stuff. That way, you can
migrate your tests one at a time. This is exactly what we have done
with JSFUnit itself, btw.
But for RichFacesClient, I didn't want a new package or a new class
name. I probably should have taken the same approach and used a new
package. So right now RichFacesClient is a bit of a mess.
Here is what I propose to do:
1) Create a new version of RichFacesClient in a new package called
org.jboss.jsfunit.richclient. This will contain only HtmlUnit-based code.
2) Restore the old org.jboss.jsfunit.richfaces.RichFacesClient. This
code will be the same as it was for beta 2.
3) Release beta 3 and tell everyone that you have between now and GA to
migrate your tests to the new packages.

Well, here we are Friday and it appears as though I have not yet looked at
richfaces tree support as I had promised last week. Unfortunately this week
has been a little busy on my day job, but I will make some time this
weekend.
It's up to you to decide whether or not to go ahead with b3, although my
vote (which doesn't hold much weight due to my lack of progress) is to go
ahead with it since it would be real nice to have it out a few weeks before
JSFOne. Thoughts?
