Przemyslaw Jaskierski commented on RF-1415:
-------------------------------------------
Ilya, the issue you are reffering to is a "wontfix" so I just provided this one
with a different suggestion on alternative rendering mode as a Feature Request. Having
reliable Modal Panel would be a great, wicked-cool feature, but in it's current state
it practically cannot be used. 6/8 computers in my environment has critical performance
problems with rendering trivial MP. And these are far more better than average Joe's
PCs.
With all the respect, putting this problem aside will hurt integrators as soon as RF
adoption will grow and larger audience will access services built using RF...
Please reconsider this.
Thank you for your hard work,
Przemek.
Modal Panel is extremely slow on slower M$ machines and under Linux
browsers. Please, provide lightweight rendering mode.

Key: RF-1415
URL:
http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/RF-1415
Project: RichFaces
Issue Type: Feature Request
Affects Versions: 3.1.0
Environment: Windows XP, Kubuntu Gutsy, Opera 9.24, Firefox 2.0.0.8. Core Duo 2,1
Ghz.
Reporter: Przemyslaw Jaskierski
Priority: Critical
Fix For: 3.1.3
Looks like the underlying shadow, translucent layer below and too complex rendering makes
this component unusable for sites with wide audience. It's to risky that it will kill
user's browser for 5-10 seconds (real time for simple modal panel on some linux boxes
(Core Duo 2,1 Ghz amongst them)). On a Windows box with a 1.2 Ghz processor it renders 2-4
seconds.
Konqueror renders this Modal Panel extremely fast (<1 second) - it ignores background
transparency and it maybe helps here...
This problem has been confirmed here (no, it's not Firefox bug, Opera behaves exactly
in the same way):
http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/RF-1267
http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4099379#...
This lightweight mode could be forced by an attribute - c'mon what's useful here
is that it pops up with embedded :include tag... It doesn't have to be pretty and have
cool gradient etc.
