To render it one has to define also @var attribute: {code} <rich:tree value="..." var="node" /> {code} Since variable "node" isn' referenced from rich:tree inner code, I don't think it should be required (and it isn't required according to [VDL doc|http://docs.jboss.org/richfaces/latest_4_2_X/vdldoc/rich/tree.html]).
