In my version of RichFaces, I don't have a numberOfViews variable, but I do have a
getNumberOfViews method. The method is:
protected int getNumberOfViews(ExternalContext externalContext) {
return DEFAULT_NUMBER_OF_VIEWS;
}
It returns a hard coded constant. I'm using MyFaces 1.2.4 and RichFaces 3.1.4
protected static final int DEFAULT_NUMBER_OF_VIEWS = 16;

AjaxStateHolder saves all views in the session. But the same view can occur several times
in this "cache"; the views from this "cache" are not reused and just
fill the session. If an application has many large views and deals with many concurrent
sessions, the heap can easily grow up to Gigabytes(!)
