man, I am a moron. I forgot the context. That is to create a suggestion listbox that
works exactly like selectOneMenu and much different than rich:comboBox that already
exists. Many many people seem to really hate rich:comboBox(including me) and would love
this new component.

it should work with s:selectItems from seam and s:convertEntity and s:convertEnum exactly
like h:selectOneMenu works. I don't think anyone cares if the html itself is an input
element or select element just that the xhtml/jsp works exactly like selectOneMenu. Also,
users entering text into the combobox should not be allowed to type something that is not
in the list. (ie. it works EXACTLY like a selectOneMenu ;) ).
