The issue is caused by http://java.net/jira/browse/JAVASERVERFACES-2347.a4j:commandLink
and a4j:commandButton require a fixed version of jsf implementation (Mojarra 2.1.8).

but h:commandLink + f:ajax (both from Mojarra) works perfectly fine!
