The documentation is as it should be. The default should be changed to be "submit" (don't change the documentation). Two reasons: - the default for h:commandButton is submit - if you have a a4j:commandButton and h:commandButton when you hit enter in a textfield you expect the first submit button to be used. When you use a4j:commandButton curently they are "button" elements not "submit" so they aren't considered. (at least by firefox) it will skip the "button" and use the first "submit". Thanks, David
