A couple of the custom component fields in RichFaces do use a skinned input field, so some of the work has already been done. Forms are probably the single most important widget in a web application, and for RichFaces to not support them leaves a lot of work up to the developer to "fit in" to the (otherwise elegant) RichFaces UI.
