Moving Eclipse 3.7/Indigo onto trunk
by Max Rydahl Andersen
Hi,
After talking yesterday with Seam/CDI/JSF team we came to the conclusion that
the fastest way we could get to Eclipse 3.7 is to break trunk for a while (i.e. the next 2 weeks).
Thus I've asked Nick to merge over the work he (and others) have been doing on the Indigo branch
to trunk later today assuming there will be no objections to this mail.
Nick will send out info on how you can get the proper bits for Eclipse 3.7 development and info on
when the merge is done.
I've created https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-8624 with links to migration docs (not many right now)
and to link or subtask for any related Indigo issues.
Thanks,

...but this doesn't seem to change its not dead - now its just a zombie ;)
note, TPTP never really catched on and is really too hard to actually use so not a big loss IMO.

Git - do it fully or not ?
by Max Rydahl Andersen
Hey,
We got our svn mirror now but after working with it a bit its basically just as slow as normal svn (if you can get it to work).
...thus i'm wondering if anyone can come up with good reasons to *not* just move all new development over to git and simply kill off
the SVN completely for our jbosstools trunk development ?
3.2.x would stay in SVN.
Comments/Suggestions/Screams/Objections ?

FYI :: New/Updated Target Platforms & More Upstream Dependency Mirrors for JBT / JBDS
by Nick Boldt
FYI
-------- Original Message --------
Subject: PLEASE READ :: New/Updated Target Platforms & More Upstream
Dependency Mirrors for JBT / JBDS
Date: Sat, 05 Mar 2011 11:17:59 -0500
From: Nick Boldt <nboldt(a)redhat.com>
To: external-exadel-list(a)redhat.com <external-exadel-list(a)redhat.com>
== 3.2.x / 4.x ==
I've updated the TP for use with JBT 3.2.x / JBDS 4.x to use the latest
Helios SR2 bits, *including Eclipse 3.6.2 and WTP 3.2.3.*
This is newer than what we used for JBT 3.2.0 / JBDS 4.0.0, and while it
SHOULD be drop-in compatible, it has unfortunately surfaced at least one
problem [0]:
[0] https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-8523
The TP has been rebuilt and is smaller than before (I cleaned out the
cruft leftover from 3.6.1R and 3.6.2M being combined into a single
repo). I've also added a flag to the TP build jobs so that you can
easily do a complete clean before building, rather than building on top
of an existing one. Takes longer but guarantees there's only ONE version
of any given feature/plugin.
If you need access to the TP, it's here [1]:
[1] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/target-platform/
== 3.3 / 5.0 in trunk ==
The current TP for use with trunk [2] is also Helios SR2 (Eclipse 3.6.2,
WTP 3.2.3, etc.), but will change to 3.7M5 when we're all ready to
switch over.
*This is a good time to start testing your component with the new
Eclipse 3.7 and see how badly broken it is.*
[2] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/target-platform_trunk
== 3.3 / 5.0 in 3.3.indigo branch ==
The work-in-progress TP for use with the 3.3.indigo branch [3] currently
contains Eclipse 3.7M5 and WTP 3.3M5:
[3] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/target-platform_3.3.indigo/
Once that's ready, I'll start spinning jobs in Hudson which build
against this TP instead of the Helios-based one, to see how much
breakage we have & how much work will be required to migrate.
== More Mirroring! ==
I'm also working to have ALL the eclipse.org bits we use mirrored on
download.jboss.org so there won't be any surprises along the way for the
3.3 / 5.0 release as we move up from milestone to milestone. You can
track the work to create these mirrors, and get the 3.3.indigo branch TP
working, here [4]:
[4] https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-8489
Mirrors will be added to the list here [5], should you want to install
things one-by-one or see what versions are available:
[5] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/requirements/
I am also working to combine these mirrors together into a single
composite update site [6] using the latest approved version (eg., SWTBot
2.0.3, Eclipse 3.7M5) so it's easy to install stuff for testing.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask via email, IRC, or other method
(see http://nick.divbyzero.com for the whole list).
