How exactly do you create a server if the relevent plugins are not in existence? What
exactly are you doing to install? I am not sure what your steps are. How do you only
install central / central community? How do you then create a jboss-as server with only
central / central community?

It is possible to install just some parts of JBoss Tools. So I installed just JBoss
Central. After succesfull install I opened Servers View and added new JBossAS server using
New Server Wizzard (There are choices for JBossAS 3.2-7.1 and EAP 4.3,5.x,6.x).
Installation of JBoss central installs also these plugins:

"nothing" beyond the features will depend on it. Awesome ... not.

The issue happens because JBoss AS 7.x/EAP 6 is defined in org.jboss.ide.eclipse.as.core
that doesn't depend on the org.jboss.ide.eclipse.as.management.as71 plugin. The JBoss

For now 7.0 and 7.1 is using the same implementation.
Last time we added these on the same classpath of as.core there were classloading
conflicts, when we had different jars. Are you saying that would not be the case ?

I still don't see how moving these out would fix anything. First, we'd need a new
as7/eap6 plugin for core, and another for UI for the wizard pages. Ugh.
Second, central would still depend on examples, which would still depend on as.core for
the general API. None of this would force the pulling in of the new as7 plugins that are
being mentioned here, since seam etc would still just be depending on as.core.
It would seem to me that having central / project examples depend on the entire
org.jboss.ide.eclipse.as.feature would be the proper solution. This feature includes
org.jboss.ide.eclipse.as.serverAdapter.wtp.feature, which has a plugin entry for
org.jboss.ide.eclipse.as.management.as71.
Is there anything wrong with this? This also seems most reasonable to me, since users may
download seam tools for use with as < 7, and not need the full feature set, while
project examples may prefer users get the entire feature set downloaded and installed.
So the question is, did adding the feature to central fix the problem? And should it be
added to exapmples now?

It seems to me that downstream components need to know themselves if they want a full
installation of their upstreams, or the minimum required to get compilation needed.
I had a similar issue when RSE features needed wtp plugins, but I did not want to force a
complete installation of all of RSE, since there was a mimimum set needed for compilation.
I chose only the plugins I needed for compilation, and then users complained they could
not actually USE rse at all, since the core APIs were there, but absolutely none of the
impl.
Clearly I had to expand my list so that RSE was at least usable, but I still did not
choose to force-include the entire rse suite. I chose a further addition of plugins that
made RSE usable at a minimum.
It would seem to me that examples and central need to decide if they want their users to
get a full installation of astools, or the bare minimum needed for compilation, or, some
subset they manually declare as dependencies.
If they want only compilation dependencies, then issues like this (where servers do not
start) become the responsibility of their teams to tell the users to get the full astools
installation. Or, if they prefer, they can open a bug against ASTools for better error
messaging in this situation.
If they want to manually declare their deps they can do that also.
Or, of course, they can depend on the main feature and require a pulling in of everything
astools.

So... you want a feature in AS which includes everydangthing which can be ref'd from
Central, Eclipse Marketplace, and JBT aggregate site? If we do that, we can then
"hide" the existing AS main feature, which would be installable should a user
look for uncategorized features, but otherwise they'll get the larger and more
feature-complete default.
This is akin to the model we now have for Central: there's a central feature, which is
minimal & hidden, and there's a community.central feature, which includes all the
dependencies needed for Central to be useful, and is exposed on the update site (and will
be in Eclipse Marketplace for Beta3, too).
Does that "all in one" vs. "bare minimum" model make sense for AS
Tools, too?

Resolution: Done
1. org.jboss.tools.central.feature is hidden from the usual categorized view of JBoss
Tools update site, and installing it won't break anything (it just won't be a
completely useful install). I've updated the descriptions to explain this to users,
and to encourage that they install the Community one instead.
2. If a user installs the whole "Abridged" category, they get a working Central.
If they install Central from that category, they get a working Central.
3. org.jboss.tools.central.feature is included in JBDS Product feature, so we need it to
be published onto the JBT Central site, aggregated into JBT site, aggregated into JBDS
site, and picked up by JBDS installer.
4. If we want to trash the org.jboss.tools.central.feature feature in JBT, we need to
trash its inclusion in JBDS too. But because Max likes plugins to be wrapped in features
and installable equally from JBT and JBDS (parallel structure), I believe we need to keep
this feature so it's available in both places.
Closing.
If you disagree with the above, please open a new issue asking that
org.jboss.tools.central.feature be removed from both JBT and JBDS.
