Ok - so it would be great if we could extend this to the web.xml as well.
I had a discussion with a colleague as well, and we agreed that
context parameter for each and every web.xml parameter would be
another, but a lot harder to implement and less flexible option.

+1 either way. The EL would have to not depend on any request objects (of
course)...but sure. I think we've had this style of config in Seam for quite
some time, proving that the strategy works. We just never had the support in
web.xml.
