I found that the selection capability exists, but only doesn't work properly, try:
1. open http://localhost:8080/metamer/faces/components/richPanelMenu/simple.xhtml
2. open Group 1
3. select Item 1.3
(item is not selected)
4. switch @bubbleSelection=false
(item is selected now!)

When you clicked on the panel menu item in 3.3.x it was displayed in cursive font by
default, but it not so in 4.x.
It is because the menu item in 3.3.x has bound "selected" class
(rich-pmenu-selected-element) but in 4.x there is no such.
