This is an inconsistent bug that depends of the context. See also other comments from
similar bug reports related to the getActiveItem. Why the implementation did not take in
consideration that tabs can be deleted, added, even moved and having a default behavior in
case of the activeItem does not point to a valid item !? such as selecting the first tab
if there is no tab (TabPanel is empty), all these case should work.

When set switchType on TabPanel to "server" (notice that with
"client" everything works correctly, with "ajax" tab switch not work
as well as with "null"), all dynamically created tabs causes NPE on tab switch.
