You can use the standard way of using jQuery.noConflict()/script ordering[http://docs.jquery.com/Using_jQuery_with_Other_Libraries], to make it compatible with prototype. jQuery calls within richfaces, are "scoped" using self-invoking anonymous function(RF-11881). However, in richfaces.js, the use of self-invoking is incorrect. It should be (function($, richfaces) { ....
