added the following as the javadoc

also, fixed the code to make sure this method is working and also added javadocs for few
other methods that are missing the javadoc.

I found the showPlan method listed in help. When I tried to get more information,
help("showPlan"); just shows "void showPlan ( boolean xml )". Please
add more detail--boolean xml is pretty cryptic. At least add the usual Javadoc formatting.
