note, for stuff that would like to run *without* having to connect then it is very much
relevant.
i.e. in the case of your production DB not being available but you would still like to
generate schemas/generate docs/reverse engineer existing pojos etc.

No, hibernate just autodetects by querying the database what is running on the
"other" side.
