Maybe all this is because of a hard-coded timeout value in
RemotingConnectionEJBReceiver.associate(). See: https://community.jboss.org/thread/203946

From a resin web application, after opening a connection to a JBoss 7 server for EJB
calls, the connection is randomly closed.
