The reason for this is that the GenericElementXmlAdapter.doModelAdd() doesnt do anything. We need to add the following code to this method: String type = child.getElementType(); SemanticElement jpdlElement; jpdlElement = getSemanticElementFactory().createById("org.jbpm.gd.jpdl.genericElement"); child.initialize(jpdlElement); GenericElement genericElement= (GenericElement )getSemanticElement(); genericElement.addGenericElement((GenericElement)jpdlElement);
