Geoffrey De Smet commented on JBBUILD-686:
------------------------------------------
From the mail
"We'd love to help get these statistics
out to you. Just so everybody is on the same page, let me just summarize how things work
today:
The Central Statistics referred to in that blog posting are delivered by means of a Nexus
plugin that's currently deployed on
oss.sonatype.org,
repository.apache.org, and
nexus.codehaus.org. Access to statistics for a particular project is granted to the
project owners and contributors for just that project. So, to see the stats for a
project, you need to be deploying that project to one of the servers above, and we handle
the data aggregation and pushing of the central log data to those servers. So, even
though you have an account on
oss.sonatype.org, Geoffrey, you won't see your stats on
oss, because your projects deploy to JBoss.
It should be trivial to provide that same plugin for folks to install on the JBoss Nexus
instance, and all we would need is credentials to push our data over on a monthly
schedule. There might be some extra config on the Nexus side related to repository
targets, but we can provide detailed instructions on how to do that.
We've been asked several times about whether we will be enhancing the plugin to
provide statistics not just from central but also from the nexus repo on which it's
installed. Sadly, the functionality isn't on the roadmap just yet, but we'd
certainly love to hear your ideas on how we might deliver this data down the road.
Anyway, let me know if you want to move forward with this, and we can start gathering
instructions and the plugin bundle."

Key: JBBUILD-686

Project: JBoss Build System
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Artifact Repositories
Reporter: Geoffrey De Smet
Fix For: Build Support 2011
Download statistics are an important requirement for project marketing.
Last year, Sonatype announced download statistics for OSS projects on the central
repository:
http://www.sonatype.com/people/2010/12/now-available-central-download-sta...
The JBoss repository should also have this.
Even if a project (like drools or jbpm) is mirrored on central, only the originating
repository (= the repository to which they were originally deployed) can show the download
statistics (and the other repo's sync their info to it with a plugin).
See Sonatype's e-mail to Paul Gier (and Geoffrey De Smet) with setup instructions.
