Double: static double MIN_VALUE A constant holding the smallest POSITIVE nonzero value of type double, 2^-1074. Sure enough, I was using Double.MIN_VALUE thinking it was the smalles NEGATIVE number, the same way as Long.MIN_VALUE, and that screwed the max function implementation.
