Actual implementation of processing IP address (e.g. from XML cfg) as 127.0.0.1 is
+totally+ useless in IPv6 environment (it has its own *incompatible* ekvivalent - _::1_).
The default behavior of AS7 is IPv6 disabled at all, so user should be forced to
*reconfigure* his instance of AS7 to run it in pure IPv6 network stack only (the are also
missing some document described this process yet! - AS7-3039).
So one issue is when AS7 instance is bring up with default configuration (distributed

This is essentially a user configuration issue -- they are changing our standard
configuration, but in an incomplete manner.
That said, I'm personally fine with detecting this situation and failing the address
resolution if:
1) These standards are official and final (seems they are not???)
2) or, following these standards even if not final is official Red Hat policy for how we
deal with IPv6.
3) or, what we have doesn't work at all.
Even if it's not official or final, detecting the situation and failing sounds like a
good idea; I'm just leery of introducing custom behavior for the AS7 project that
isn't going to be followed elsewhere.

Pavel, you leave out one of the major reasons for IPv4 mapped addresses, which is that
applications written using IPv4 addresses can communicate with an IPv6 application.
Part of the reason why an IPv4 mapped address shows up printed as a pure IPv4 address is
just that Java converts them internally into a pure IPv4 address.
Also, preferIPv4Stack does not really indicate the user wants pure ipv6 binding.

FWIW:
1) Starting the AS with -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=false but standalone.xml left
unchanged, the server boots and running the CLI app configured to connect to
127.0.0.1:9999 works.
2) Starting the AS with -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=false and
-Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=true but standalone.xml left unchanged, the server does not
start correctly because the "127.0.0.1" in the standalone.xml interface configs
cannot be resolved. The error message isn't great (which is unrelated to this issue)
but the misconfiguration is detected and reported.

Actual implementation of processing IP address (e.g. from XML cfg) as 127.0.0.1 is
+totally+ useless in IPv6 environment (it has its own *incompatible* ekvivalent - _::1_).
The default behavior of AS7 is IPv6 disabled at all, so user should be forced to
*reconfigure* his instance of AS7 to run it in pure IPv6 network stack only (the are also
missing some document described this process yet! - AS7-3039).
So one issue is when AS7 instance is bring up with default configuration (distributed
standalone.xml), but in an IPv6 network environment available only like:

Rajesh to clarify my comment, everything in AS that creates a socket would need to use the
IPV6_V6ONLY socket option. Most systems have a way to do it, but its not a standard Java
thing. We might be able to detect it somehow and then error better.
