Suggested new core JBossAlertListener available: send Nagios alerts natively with the
NagiosAppender library (Apache 2.0)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: JBADMCON-155
URL:
https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBADMCON-155
Project: JBoss Admin Console
Issue Type: Feature Request
Reporter: Jar Lyons
Priority: Optional
Suggestion: include the NagiosAppender library with the JBoss Application Server.
The latest version of the log4j based NagiosAppender exposes a JBossAlterListener MBean
(NagiosAlertListener) which can be configured in the monitoring-servlce.xml file.
Once configured, the registration is available as the action for managing your alerts.
Alerts are sent using native Java (no requirement for installing nsca_send). The only
limitation is that the only nsca encryption scheme currently supported is XOR and clear
text.
The NagiosAlertListener greatly simplifies the overhead typically involved in adding new
monitoring entry points in Nagios, as the NagiosAppender uses the push model (nsca
server). Therefore, alerts can be registered dynamically in JBoss without having to touch
the Nagios server itself.
The latest version of the library (1.3.0) has been vetted against JBoss 3.2.7 and
4.2.2.GA
