The standalone.xml is not the client.. the client is the CLI, web console or RHQ plugin.
The user should never *have* to muck with the standalone file. All options should be
available in the clients.

Referencing TEIID-2108, the login traffic should be encrypted by default. The
standalone-teiid-xml does not specify <ssl mode="login" />, nor does the
teiid-domain-mode-install.cli show to be adding this setting.
